Part-time Job at Dairy Farm Company in Japan
There is a village in Japan which has a dairy farm. It's located in Showa-mura, Iwamoto-shi, Gunma-ken. From Maebashi-shi, we can go there by train. It takes 45 minutes. Start from Maebashi station and through 5 stations. They are Shim-Maebashi Station, Gunma Soja Station, Yagihara Station, and Shikishima Station. The last station is Iwamoto Station. From Iwamoto Station, we need to reach to the dairy farm by car. It takes 10 minutes.
As Japan's regulation for abroad students, we have 28 hours time limit for a week. So I do part-time 4 times a week. In a day, if I start from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, I can get 6 hours with an hour break. So I only can fulfill 24 hours a week. It still safe because it's not beyond the time limit.
Before starting to work, we have to put on the uniform with an apron. Enter the time card before and after work for attendance. Our wage is calculated by our time card. We have to stay at there because we can't get the last train after the work is done. They provide a place to stay there. It has the bedroom, a drinking water storage, a heater for winter, and an electric stove for cooking. They're kind to us they provide all of it.
It's located on a hill. There is no convenience store around there so we have to bring own box lunch. The homestay has 2 floors. We sleep on the 2nd floor. When bedtime, sometimes I feel can't sleep due to noise from the 1st floor. There are cows on the 1st floor that sometimes make noise. The 1st floor is a cow's cage. The bedtime is 1:00 am and we have to get up at 5:00 am. So we only have maximum 4 hours sleep time. The first train comes at 5:27 am. They will wake us up and then drive us to Iwamoto station.
The milking way is not difficult. Give the liquid medicine to cow's nipples, take the milk sample, pump when there is a bad milk and install the milking machine. Sometimes the cow takes a piss or defecates when we handle it. That's a pretty bad moment. Such a disgusting moment when the feces or urine hits you.
When the milking is done, it's time to cleaning. This is the toughest part because you have to push the feces out with a shovel.
